DIY Floral Pumpkin

12.10.18 | Ashley | No Comments

This fall DIY floral pumpkin arrangement is easy to make and can be created in less than an hour with only a few supplies!

DIY Floral PumpkinI love a good DIY project that has multiple functions. And by multiple functions, I mean one that can seamlessly transition between holidays. This DIY floral pumpkin does just that! It can happily fit into early themed fall decor in September, follow on through with Halloween in October, or even make it onto the table for Thanksgiving in November.

Whichever holiday or season you plan to use it for, this beauty is really easy to make and can be created in less than an hour!

DIY Floral PumpkinHere’s what you’ll need to make your own:

  • Craft Pumpkin
  • Floral Foam
  • Scissors
  • Flowers
  • Water

I picked up a craft pumpkin that already had a hole cut out in the center of it, but if yours isn’t pre-cut, use a sharp knife or a hot knife to cut out a round hole in the front center of your pumpkin. Ensure that you leave enough of a lip at the bottom, so that water won’t escape when poured inside.

DIY Floral PumpkinNext, fill your pumpkin with floral foam. Get a tight fit and fit the pumpkin so that the floral foam doesn’t move when you start inserting your flowers.

Pour water over the floral foam to soak it and leave some sitting in the bottom of the pumpkin too.

Next, begin trimming your flowers and inserting them into the floral foam. Cut each steam at about a 45-degree angle, instead of a straight cut, to allow each flower to absorb more water.

DIY Floral PumpkinBegin filling your arrangement with the larger blooms first, and then work to fill is gaps using the smaller blooms.

DIY Floral PumpkinAdd accent pieces like branches, berries, or leaves last to fill in any gaps.

DIY Floral PumpkinMy blooms lasted for a week, and that was without me adding any additional water…oops. It’s been a little crazy around here, so I blame my schedule for this lapse in judgement. But if you keep some fresh water in your DIY floral pumpkin it should last even longer than that! (If you don’t want to worry about keeping fresh blooms alive, you can always sub them out for faux flowers too).
